What's A Ryokan?

Ryokans are the Japanese traditional style of accommodation (Japanese style inn), which are as good as hotels. Ryokans can be found across Japan and most of them are located in scenic areas, such as Hakone. A stay at a Ryokan is highly recommended to foreigners who want to experience a traditional Japanese atmosphere.

Ryokan is such a unique Japanese style inn that it even offers special Japanese services that western hotels cannot offer. For example, Ryokans ore well-known for their various traditional Japanese specialties, such as traditional Japanese rooms with Tatami flooring, a communal bath (onsen ofuro), authentic Japanese meals, and a yukata (Japanese dress) which is provided to be worn, etc.
